 Recommended: Place a spacer that is the same thickness at the new stair trade on the step on both sides next to stringer

Place the tool on the spacers. A straight edge that has the same width as the new stair tread nosing is required to be placed at the tool nosing guides. Adjust the nose guides until the back of the tool is closest space to the rises

Unloosen knobs on the gauge and push in the tool fingers until they are all tight against the stringer. Tighten the knobs on the gauge. Repeat on the other side gauge

Move the right clamp until it touches the blocking. Tighten the knob on the clamp

Collapse the tool and remove from step.

Place the tool on the new stair tread. Extend the tool until the right side tool clamp touched the blocking. This process allows the tool to be bought back to the original size.

Tighten the left side tool clamp to lock in place the tool dimension.

Use a sharp knife blade to trace the pattern. Cut to line, use a grinder with sand paper to adjust to trace line.
